Weird genre issue
Probably not a bug, but couldn't find a better place to post this one.
I think I have had this issue since I installed 3.8, but I have verified that it's not really a bug in this version since others don't seem
to have this problem using 3.8. The problem goes like this.
When I click on a genre from the 'genre' button ejukebox just refreshes the albumlist instead of sorting on genre. Normally the genre name
is thrown to the searchfield in this case, but this does not happen on my system. Nothing is added to the searchfield. When I enter this manually to
the searchfield everything works fine.
I have also noticed that the parenthesis which used to give info about the number of songs in each genre is gone. There is a checkbox stating
"show matching albums" at the bottom of this menu which is not possible to untick, can't remember if this is normal.
Does someone have a clue about what has happend, I find it a little weird since I've talked with other ejukebox users, which are using the same
version as me, and they don't seem to have this issue.
I should note that I have a dangerously small amount of harddrive capacity available these days due to a growing albumcollection.. However as long as
there is enough room to hold the database, this shouldn't really explain problems with genre sorting?

Fishy, you are not alone with this problem! I also experience it like you describe...
Otherwise i've noticed the parenthesis in the genre list only appear when the albumlist is closed.
I've also noticed a certain slowing of the mouse reaction on the genrelist since this last eJukebox version. In fact, now the mouse pointer is a
bit jerky when i move the mouse quickly over the genres.
It seems Audiosoft have made some adjustments in the genrelist, adding a bug at the same time!

Oh! So I am not suffering alone it seems? The 'n of songs in genre' information is back when not having the albumlist loaded on my system
too. When the albumlist isn't loaded it also correctly sorts the genres, which is weird. Maybe some bug in the albumlist code related to
genres?
I have not noticed any artifacts of mousemovements over genres though. Maybe its time for you to pay the local hardware store a little visit?

| This is not a bug...we changed the way the Genre menu is display in v3.80 in order to let the user know the functionality. Note the
last checkbox item on the menu. When the album list is closed the Genre menu only shows the number of songs on the menu when you have the "Only
Show Matching Songs" checked because that is the only time when the display of the # of songs would be accurate to the listing. The Genre menu
when the album list is open does not list songs but instead albums - so it does not show the (#)'s next to the album name.
Pirk,
Not sure why the genre menu would be "jerky" - all the menus operate the same. Also do you have the same problem as Fishy regarding the
Genre not loading the album list? Seems to work fine here.
Fishy,
Does the Genre not being loaded in the Album List ALWAYS happen or just sometimes?

Audiosoft: Thanks for explaining the logic behind the #songs info.
I'm rebuilding at the moment and to my surprise it seems to take care of things. Genre sorting works fine when sorting in the albumlist now. I
hope that this also will be the case when the entire database is done. I realize that I should have tried a rebuild before posting. So I apologize for
this.
It happened every time with the previous database. And I guess it was due to lack of diskspace when building that database. Maybe some information
that never was included in it..
*Edit*: The database rebuild resulted in the genre menus working fine again. Sorry for this misleading post, should have done proper research first...
The morale is: Don't build a database when you don't have more than 50 mb available space on c:\

Yes, when i click on a genre in the genre list the FULL albumlist is reloaded again and that's all. The genre i've selected isn't
displayed on the albumlist header.
I just want to add that my main drive is also saturated (like the Fishy's drive), i've less than 600Mo free on the 60Go! I've started
to move 2Go on a second drive... I think that should relieve my os!
After the work i will report you if that fixe the issue or not for me...

Well, now it's OK for me too... even if the HD space releasing and the database rebuilding has not been efficient for me. So i've tried to
completely reinstalled eJ, in the default path (as my previous install was in another path). Then, first database building... and so my album genre
list became fully functional again, and fast!
However, if i run the previous version that i've not deleted, the "bug" still occur in this previous install. But as the new install
work normally, i should simply delete that bad install without to know the real reason (other than a simple punishment...)

We have discovered what was causing this problem (Only Show Matching Songs checked on Genre menu) and have fixed it so that Genre menu now always
works correctly with the album list open in v3.88.
