Time remaining WAY too large
This is a request for help with winamp. I am sure the problem is not with eJ so it is not in the bug forum. I asked once a long time ago and no one
had any ideas. I still have the problem.
I let the time count down to zero so we know when the next song is coming. On some songs (small amount), the time will jump up to 50 + minutes and
continue to count down from there. Somewhere near the 50 minute mark the song ends and a new ones starts and the time remaining is ok. If I am going
to get the "eJ gets stuck on one song thing", it happens more often here. Anyone see this problem? Is it just me?
3.27 w/ Winamp 2.8
Thanks
Don

No, I've never noticed this problem (I use Winamp 2.91).
I also usually let eJ count down. Do you have the 50+ minutes on the Winamp display too?

Hi.
No I don't. It has no time. 0:00. And the progress bar is at the start and doesn't move. But the song plays on.

Hi Don,
I think maybe these mp3s are a bit corrupted? No?

Pirk,
I have thought that but they all play fine. And sometimes it is a song that is part of an album I ripped myself all at the same time. So they should
all have problems. But I can isolate that for sure. Next time I will take the song that is doing that and add it back to the playlist. If it does it
again it is the song.
Thanks for the response. I will post the results.

Do these songs can be previewed inside the eJ editor?
I tell you that because if not, that could be a sign of corruption. I know Winamp is much more tolerant concerning the files corrupted. I have
experienced that sometimes in the past.
Of course, I hope your files are not corrupted.
I wait for your results.

Dyno Don - you are right the problem is not with eJ. I have had this problem intermitantly running only Winamp. I THINK but only think it may be
connected with having a very large playlist and skipping tracks. When the counter does get screwy I just restart winamp and all is back to normal.
I minor irritation that I just put down to "one of those things" (like programs seem to load quicker if a wiggle the mouse!!)

Files that have the remaining time go up over fifty minutes play normally at a different time. So it is not the files themselves. I upped to 2.91
Winamp. Still happens. Quite often too. And if a visualization is going it stops and the screen is black until another song starts. Frustrating.

Yes,
Squaresoft Crossfading plug-in. Do you think that could be the problem? I could turn it off, but it is a great feature, music constantly playing
merging one into the other. Maybe someone else has a better one?

Currently, I don't use any Crossfade plug-in! Only an effect plug-in called "Octimax". The sound is very good with it.

Pirk,
Have you tried one? It is great. No breaks or silence. What does Octimax do?

Yes, before I used Sqrsoft Advanced Crossfading plug-in. Is it the same as Squaresoft?
Octimax improve the sound of mp3s. It add dynamic. http://www.octiv.com/index.asp?content=faq_octimax
But as Octimax doesn't work very well with Sqrsoft crossfading (some unpleasant cracks when song change...) , I have stopped to use any
crossfading at the moment.

As a test I have turned off the crossfade. Yes it is the same, I spelled it wrong. We will see what happens. Meanwhile I will go check out Octimax.

Well so far the time has not gone over 50. But the breaks between songs are so large you can't help but look over ti the box to see if it got
stuck.
The saga continues.
Looking forward to installing 3.3 tonight!

That was it. Several days of no Sqrsoft crossfader have fixed the too large remaing time bug.
Now does anyone know of another crossfader you can recommend?
Thanks

Yes, or rather no... because I don't remember its name any more! Sorry.
But I believe the Winamp Direct Sound Plug-in can do this, no? I am not sure.

Are you talking about the SqrSoft or the Windows DirectSound plugin? I absolutely love the SqrSoft plugin & it would be difficult for me to give
it up. The only other crossfading plugin/app that I like is the one built into Windows Media Player 9, but alas, eJ only uses Winamp as it's
mother app (since eJ is a Winamp plugin).

Actually, while it is good, it has also has a major bug: Ever tried playing a file that is not 44.100Hz but 48.000 (e.g. something digitally copied
from DAT or DVD or DVB or DAB or ADR to name just a few)?
It will do a horrible, horrible job of resampling it down to 44.100. Really awful. So bad I even tried to contact the authors ay SQRSoft, but they
seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth (no update of their web page in years).

I used to run a crossfading plugin and have tried out several ones that were very pleasing, yet i would not swap the configuration i have today with
anything else:
the OctiMax plugin and in the DirectSound plugin, select the "Remove Silence at the beginning / end of track" (a lengthy way of saying
"gap remover" or similar, but it works even better that many of the "gap removing" plugins i have ever used).
I highly recommend these settings. I tried the two other popular dynamics plugins mentioned on this board, but neither could compete with OctiMax in
the long run, as it seems to keep the original dynamics intact in a much better way than the competitors.

I agree with you junk, I think OctiMax is better than Sqrsoft because it is close to the original dynamics.
That's noticeable with good speakers.

Interesting discussion. I too believe the sqrsoft is the best, but it's bugs will keep me from using it. Since I stopped I have had NO remaining
time issues, NO visualation stopping. AND, NO stopping at one song in now playing, playing the next and then stopping, needing intervention to get it
going again. eJ works fine now. It was all the sqrsoft plugin. I am using another from the winamp site. It really just fades in and out. I will look
at your suggestions.

To go back to the original thread I have just realised I am having the problem but within eJukebox (not just winamp)
I will post to the bugs section.
