more drag and drop functions?

Hope this haven't been requested before. It would be nice to have drag and drop functionality from the artist list to the playlist. For instance if I have three albums by jimi hendrix I would like to have the possibility to drag "jimi hendrix" from the artistlist and all songs from the three albums are added into the playlist.

Also It would, as mentioned in another post, be fine to have drag and drop of albums directly from the albumlist to the playlist with the same result as above...

Keep up the good work!

Hm, i like that idea! :) It would save me a lot of time! Today i would usually enter "Artist = Hendrix" in custom mode, but it's a bit too random at times. And adding all albums manually would take ages for some artists, especially for those artists that have 16-20 albums. [yet those are the ones i'd me most likely to use this function for].

Having such a shortcut as you describe would be quite lovely.

Glad you liked it :) From my point of view, this would streamline the gui of ejukebox a lot. And improve the user interaction with the gui.

When I think of it I would like the playbutton, currently only available in the albumlist, to be more used troughout the program as well. What about using it in the homeview and songlists as well? Sometimes I want to play an album directly after viewing the songs it contains. Having to change back to the albumview and then push the playbutton isn't that effective. Would be nice to just hit a playbutton fromwithin the songlist. Any alternative suggestions on this?

If you rightclick on a songs you can select to add all songs by the artist/album

I know that there are other ways to this already. But for many users, dragging and dropping is more logical than using rightclick menues. I think one should have the possiblity to *both* use drag and drop and rightclick menues. Then it's up to the user to decide the gui navigation of preference.

Sorry for bringing up an old post again.

I am just wondering if there is any news on this one? I sure hope dnd from the artist and albumlist are on the drawing board for 4.0? :)

Especially the one from the albumlist is begging for implementation. The mouse even changes as if it was possible to drag albums to the playlist already.

It would be nice if dragging an album over the now playing panel would play the first song on that album right away adding the rest of the songs in that album to the playlist top. And dragging to the playlist directly resulted in every tune in that album added to the playlist top.

Same results when dragging artists from the artistlist.

Currently this teqnique is only possible with songs from the songlist, which is kindof a shame :(

Dragging Artists and Albums is in the works.... it will show an alpha blended album image, artist name, album title, and song title (if its a song being dragged) that follows the mouse during the drag operation. Not sure if we should make it display an album image when dragging an artist or not. What do you think?

v3.8 will have the alpha blended drag details...but it will most likely only work for dragged song icons for that version.

The look is not finalized yet but attached is an image of how the effect looks as we have it right now: there is also a normal drag mouse pointer linked to the top left corner of the drag details - which does not show up in this screen capture.

Audiosoft has attached this image:

Great! By the way, notice how your screenshot looks like a nice tooltip function when moving the pointer over the entries in the playlist :)

Junk: You just introduced a great idea :)

audiosoft: Absolutely brilliant! Looks great and very practical at the same time. When it comes to displaying albumcovers when dragging artists. How would ej decide which image to show? An artist often got quite a few albums associated with his/hers good name.

I think that showing a random coverimage from this artist would create (a false) perception from the user that this album will be the first one or the only one played when dragging the artistname. And showing all coverimages associated with that artist on drag would become overkill :)

Maybe an "if only one coverimage associated with the artist then show coverimage. If several coverimages, then show only artistname." Would do?

Anyhow this looks great! Thanks a lot!

Pirk: hehe yeah. I am in one of those heavens Can't remember which one however :D

Seriously I am just glad that this suggestion is getting implemented. I am looking forward to see how much more intuitive and sexy (sorry couldn't find a better word) ej get's when this is done.

I am also plain happy that the developers are listening to the users, which is not common place in the software world elsewhere.

Probably as happy as all those users that I now (when ej is evolving so extreamly well) will recommend this fine software for :D

People tend to ask me "what that cool thingy is that let you view the albumcovers and stuff" I am sure not ashamed of letting them know what it is..

If there is intelligent life on Tellus (is it?) people should realize that its time to move from winamp or filemanager playback to ejukebox.

There is simply no reason for using musicmatch, I tunes, filemanager sollutions, winamp itself or others.

Junk: You where so right telling me about this software half a year ago already! Now, finally, I know what you where talking about :D

It's so true...
When i've known eJukebox, 2 years ago, i've tried to suggest it to a few Winamp (or other programs...) users, but...
I think once we will have the cover.jpg scanning feature, things should be change a bit because that will give right away a good look to eJukebox. Well, at least for those who want to see images elsewhere than inside their CD cases(!)

We have made some really good progress on the enhanced drag and drop functionality.... :D

In v3.8 you are able to drag artists and albums from the songlist, artistlist, homeview, nowplaying or albumlist directly to the position in the playlist where you want to add all the songs. You can also drag it to the Now Playing Panel to: Play the first song and add the rest to the top of the playlist.

If some or all of the songs already exist in the playlist...it will reposition them to where you made the drop.

You can now drag over the playlist < > buttons to make it page the playlist forward or back while you are dragging.

In addition, you can drag song titles from the songlist instead of being only able to drag the play icon.

You are also able to drag out any of this to other windows programs...for example dropping an artist or album on a CD burning app will drop all the associated files.

Plus, eJukebox v3.8's playlist (not the Now Playing panel) now supports the dropping of Multiple files from explorer or other apps to the position where you want to add the songs. If the files are MP3 WMA APE OGG MPC MP4 or AAC and not yet in the database it will automatically add them.
