Artist Ratings
An interesting extension of the Ratings system might be to ALSO allow overall rating of an Artist. Obviously this would have to be kept in the
database instead of in the MP3 files, so that's a disadvantage, but think of what could be done with it...
--In Popularity Mode, when playing Unrated songs, give more "weight" to songs by better rated Artists
--Allow filtering by Artist rating. Only play songs by Two Star rated artists or better, for example. True, that Artist might have a SONG with a
rating of less than Two Stars, but that's where people can customize at will. One user might be okay with playing bad songs by a good artist and
just leave it. Another might want to ALSO filter by song rating at the same time and cut the song list down even more...
These are just two uses. I'm sure there are more.
ALSO: for those who like ehem... Auto-ratings ... unlike individual
songs an Artist CAN be very safely auto-rated--by calculating the Artist auto-rating from the composite score of their existing songs in the database!

Is this not already done in the TOP ARTISTS list...?

Close, but not quite. The Top Artists list is just a visual display. As far as I know (Audiosoft should comment, obviously) an Artists placement on
the Top Artists list does not increase how often ANY unrated song of theirs auto-plays, and it is certainly NOT based on the rating--its based on Pick
counts.
I say "unrated" song, of course, because that would be the default effect of something like this--to make less listened to songs come up
more often providing you've said that you like the artist, via a good artist rating, but haven't specificially said that you dislike THAT
particular song. Rated songs would not be affected either negatively or positively by this slight "bump" in priority given to unrated songs
by well rated artists, since the song's normal rating would do the job quite well in telling eJukebox how often to play it.
Of course there is the other possible effect--song filtering. Filtering could be done by artist rating alone OR artist rating in combination with
song ratings, and if the song ratings are also used it would obviously apply to rated songs instead of unrated ones.
And to be clear, I think that most Artist ratings should be a purposeful number someone deliberately gives to an artist. An "Auto" Artist
rating based on how well rated their existing rated songs are, would only be a fallback--if the user hadn't gotten around to giving the artist a
deliberate score.
Perhaps I am explaining this badly.

After reflexion your idea seems to be quite interesting. That could rough out a bit the work of ratings...
Thanks.
