Ah good idea this VU Meter!
well it does not matter if it does not work in all skins yet. because i think my new "IE9 skin" will not need it! :D

Thanks for this update.

...exe in the first post updated
...you can now change the VU meter background by modifying the file C:\EJukebox\vumeterbg.png

.. Viz button now has options for 4 different VU meter orientations. Vertical, SplitVertical, Left-Right, Split Left-Right :D

...updated so meter is visible on skins like Crimson by removing cdcaser when the VU meter running

...now playing cover is now at 75% Opacity when vu meter running so some of the meter shows through

updated above exe again...

-new skin support for a NowPlayingAboveBG.png stretched to the now playing size that is above the VU Meter and under the artist/title text
-updated default VU Meter background image
-made cover have faded edge when VU meter active
-fixed VU Meter bugs
-made Viz VU Meter options menu show all 4 modes instead of 2 checkboxes
-fixes EJukebox unable to complete shutdown / restart on Win7 with IE9 since Windows update...ejukebox.exe was staying open with 0 cpu usage after shutdown

btw if i can't get the vu meter to work in IE9standards...could make the now playing not use ie9standards while the rest of the skin uses it.

also it can be possible to change the 3 colors of the vu meter gradient. thinking about making an options panel to pick the colors...or should i make the colors work off of the skin's colors.ini?
currently it is
green - yellow - red
50% - 25% - 0% transparency

i use ie9standards on now playing in my new skin. i hope it will be possible to not disable them from the skin.

i like the idea of an options panel to pick the colors.

ok i will see what i can do.
still need to make the colors changeable in code then can worry about the panel

what if you test the skin with not ie9 mode...does 'now playing' look decent enough with standards off? (for when the vu is running)

think this is the best vumeterbg.png so far

i just tried the vumeter in the vinyl skin. it looks good!

tried my new skin without ie9 standards for the now playing panel: well it's not the same skin.. many drawbacks. however eventually i could make it works differently when the vumeter is used if there was a additional non-ie9standards nowplaying.dis.

Pirk, if it comes down to that we could have an alternate nowplaying.dis for the vu. first going to try Again to figure out why it's not working in ie9standards. if i can find the actual problem i might be able to get it to work.

the exe in the first posted has been updated and now contains a VU Colors options panel

check it out...think Split Horizontal with these colors might be a better default vu...

Great work Audiosoft, now your VUmeter works good with my IE9STANDARDS skin! the Blue Flame looks amazingly good in my now playing panel. :)

Thanks a lot.

PS: I've improved my songlist:

The VUmeter is a MUST!

Audiosoft, i tried a little longer. Your VUmeter is Absolutely FANTASTIC! Really magic in my skin the blue flame, horizontally with the grid or vertically with the small pattern.
i still can't believe how it can look so good in my IE9 skin with transparency, shapes and color effects. :o
no screenshot yet.. because i don't know how people could survive without the skin! i have a showpiece to finish..

PS: i hope you will add the ability to also change the patterns from the VUmeter editor.

That's great Pirk! Glad you like the VU! will also work under Windows XP in the next version. What is nice about Win7 and Vista is there is no need to set recording to stereo mix.

...v5.58v2
...VU now has full precision with low volume and large 'now playing' areas
...VU now works on Windows XP
...VU now animates screensaver mode when there is no sound
...fixed various IE9STANDARDS issues

Known remaining IE9STANDARDS issues:
no right click menu in artistlist and albumlist
title auto focusing in songlist not working - arrow tabbing works fine
middle keyboard <- -> arrows break songlist and albumlist tabbing...numpad works fine

Pirk please let me know if you spot any other ie9 skin issues

i see in this new ej version you have fixed .albumwimagehi in the songlist: perfect!
i noticed these issues:
-it seems the keyboard arrows don't work for me in my ie9 skin.
-page change animations not working smoothly for me (maybe my pc is too old, or/and too much "css tricks" in my skin?)
-the new VU animates even when ejukebox is not playing any song! maybe it's "VU now animates screensaver mode when there is no sound "? i don't know why you added this? it's like if the VU was not "reliable": you know like when a cinch inlet is not fully inserted!
otherwise i not tested all the features.

Thanks.

Requested feature: a skin builder!

little mistake

"will get rid of the no sound VU screensaver": well this morning i've seen what is really the VU screensaver: it moves full up and down smoothly.
in fact when i reported the VU animates even when ejukebox is not playing any song, that was not the VU screensaver that i experienced but the sound from windows media center! so i think the ejukebox VUmeter should not work with other sources than the music it plays itself. then maybe you can keep the screensaver animation. sorry for the mistake.

ok we will keep the screen saver...the idea was the smoothness and for testing the vu skin. just it is not good for notebook battery because the screensaver constant cpu. but that should be ok since the vu animation is disabled when you minimize EJ.

i will look into getting getting the VU to display only sound from EJ instead of all sound. i know that will be impossible on XP but there might be a way on Vista/Win7.

check this out... i made an analog stereo vu! it uses PNGs for background, needle and the needle's shadow. it requires IE9 so can only work on Vista/Win7. it can scale to any size perfectly in realtime :) was thinking maybe a standalone exe with resizable window... any interest?

here is a demo as a standalone exe which can be resized. this requires IE9 installed on Vista/Win7. let me know what you think...
Gauge.png Needle.png Shadow.png are customizable...if you delete a png the original is recreated when you start the exe. also if you change a png's dimensions you can edit the dimensions section of the vu.ini to set the correct aspect ratio.

ah ah, 2 minutes only each time! ok it's a demo.. i like it, good precision! i tried to edit the gauge.png. i don't know why there is a black bandeau at the bottom while the top is cut on display?
-maybe the periphery currently in black could be transparent?
-it seems the user rights are limited when i save the vu.ini or images. i edited the rights of the install folder..
Thanks.
