How the guys of Media Player have solved the RATING problem:
By default, all items in Media Library are automatically given a rating of three stars. These auto ratings change based on the number of times the
item is played. The three-star auto rating is also used when you click Unrated.
When you rate an item, that rating replaces the auto rating in the Rating column in Media Library. Your rating is listed as My Rating in the criteria
for auto playlists. You can use both the Auto Rating and the My Rating criteria to create auto playlists.
I think they have mixed auto rating and user rating very well. BOTH way are possible: Popularity based on number of times a song is played OR user
rating which prevail the automatic rating in the 5 stars system on the screen by high lighting.
To be meditate...
Thanks.

Pirk, are you talking about Windows Media Player, specifically Windows Media Player 9?
Thanks,

Yes absolutely, Windows Media Player 9 under Windows XP.
What you think about the way Microsoft deal with ratings?
Thanks.

Hey Pirk, I think it's pretty good, but I haven't examined exactly how they are affected or used. The only thing that I don't like
about WMP9 is that it's not suitable for an HTPC. Or, at least I haven't been able to figure out how to increase its text font size.

Personally, I don't use Media Player at all. I just have a look from time to time to see if there is something interesting that anybody
hadn't thought to add to eJukebox. Most of my ideas come from others mp3 related programs I used before eJukebox be revealed to us! I think that
is in particular by keeping the best of each program it is possible to make eJ better and better. I think contrary to Audiosoft the major flaw of the
others music program designers is they don't take an interest in how the users like that be. They only want to take up the ground. So no mood to
pinch there ideas, of course if they are good. That's all!
Thanks.
