Playback stutter when Searching database V4 Beta 1

The Beta 1 is a very good improvement apart from one annoyance. My playback stutters for a couple of seconds whenever I submit a search request. This happens with either performance (RAM) boost on or off. It was not happening with the V4 Alpha releases.

It seems to have happened with the large (>32000 songs) support fix, is this a coincidence? My Db is about 43000.

Anyone else noticed this? Any chance of a fix or shall I just go back a release like I intend?

Thanks

I doubt there is anything new in v4 b1 that would cause a stutter like that since Winamp controls the audio playback in a seperate process. Try raising the priority of the winamp.exe process using the task manager and see if that fixes it.

Are you absolutely sure about that? I realise that Winamp has all the playback control but I've just returned to V4 alpha 4 and I get no stutter when searching or loading the album list, while V4 B1 still buggers up the playback when I try it. I'm willing to be proved wrong but I'd rather not go changing program priorities until I'm sure it's the problem as the only change made to the setup is alpha 4 to beta 1.

I am also experiencing stuttering in the new beta. This was not happening prior to this version. For me it happens sometimes when I resize the cover image in now playing, or scrolls very fast up and down in the albumlist.

Try DECREASING the priority of the EJUKEBOX.EXE process using the task manager, because since the last beta version the ejukebox process is set to "high" by default instead of "normal"..

I have tried to fool around with the cpu settings, without any results. It might be that something else than ejukebox results in this, although it has been like that only since the latest beta. Most of the time it performs well, but sometimes it stutter if I resize the coverimage in the now playing (fast). In addition the pc speaker has started to beep when I scroll up and down the albumlist (fast). Weird. I have a descent fast computer with lots of ram, so that should not be the problem.

I never experience this when searching the database though.

Works for me Pirk, well spotted. Priority back to normal and Beta 1 works fine with no stutter.

Small update to my last reply. Small search returns were OK, but when I tried larger search words (i.e. 'band') I still got small playback interruption.

Task manager priority did nothing for this, changing the preferences in Winamp itself to high priority, however, has cured all stutter no matter what I type in the search box. Sorted.

You're welcome.

In fact all that chuffin about with task manager priorities was a total waste of time. All it does is change the speed which task manager refreshes the CPU data for it's own logging purposes. It does nothing for the amount of CPU priority a program is given.

Ah well, you learn something every day. I'm off to finish my bottle of wine and give the juke some hammer.
