File Names, Tags, covers how I organize them
Hy,
What do you think about this way of organize the collection?
Any feedback welcome, thanks.
Cheers, Yogui.
PD: Anyone in Sydney, Au?
FILE & FOLDERS NAMES, COVER IMAGE and ID3Tags
1-Rename all the files and Folders
Using "The rename program" http://www.nerdgeneration.com/
Check the mp3 saved actions I have made... (See Attached file .actions)
Files and folders with following format:
Artist:
My Documents\My Music\Artist\Year-Album Name\Track Number-Track Name.mp3
My Documents\My Music\@@@@\####-@@@@@@@@@@\##-@@@@@.mp3
Soundtracks:
My Documents\My Music\Soundtracks\Year-Movie Name\##-Artist Name-Track Name
Compilations:
My Documents\My Music\Compilations\Year-Compilation Name\##-Artist Name-Track Name
Release with more than one Volume:
My Documents\My Music\Artist\Year-Album Name (Vol ##)\Track Number-Track Name.mp3
My Documents\My Music\@@@@\####-@@@@@@@@@@\##-@@@@@.mp3
Release with more than one CD:
My Documents\My Music\Artist\Year-Album Name (CD ##)\Track Number-Track Name.mp3
My Documents\My Music\@@@@\####-@@@@@@@@@@\##-@@@@@.mp3
Notes:
Track Number always goes at the beginning of the mp3 so when you explore the files it appears in that order
Every First Type Is Always Capital (Title Case as in MS Word)
Avoid the Use of the Following Characters in Names and IDTags
? (Generate Problems in some applications)
' instead of ’ (Is the correct type for I'm etc.)
, instead of . (It’s Hard to See)
- (Is used as Separator Character in the file name)
IDTAG BATCH PROCESS (Only available in MusicMatch Pro)
2-Load in the playlist on MusicMatch the whole ARTIST Folder and run "Edit Track information" to change/correct ALL the IDTags in the batch:
a) Tag from filename (Track Number-Track Name)
b) Artist
c) Genre
d) Preference
3- Load in the playlist on MusicMatch the ALBUM Folder and run "Edit Track information" to change/correct ALL the IDTags in the batch:
e) Album Name
f) Year
g) CD cover imageMP3 file format
MP3 ENCODING STANDARD
I also have chosen the following standard for encoding the mp3s
mp3 160 kbps at 44 kHz
mp3pro 128 kbps at 44 kHz
May be 128 kbps in Mp3 but I like to re-ensure the quality to 160
64 kbps in Mp3Pro should be enough, but if the player does not support mp3pro then I'll lose quality
ID3 TAG CONTAINS @@@@@@ From Operations (#)
Artist (2-b)
Album Name (3-e)
Track Number (1-2-a)
Track Name (1-2-a)
Year (3-f)
Genre (2-c)
Preference (2-d)
CD Album cover image (3-g)
CD ALBUM COVER IMAGE STANDARD
Format .jpg standard in Quality 8-10 from 12 adjusting weight to 100-150kb
Canvas size of 640x640 pixels (Square)
I choose one Preference for the whole Artist but can be done per album or per track.
Preference Tag from MusicMatch doesn’t appear in eJUKEBOX which is a pity.

It's perfect Yogui !
Personally I name my albums like this: .../Artist - Year - Album Name
Do you know that eJukebox can create your file names and folders exactly as you wish?
If you use eJukebox to rip your CDs, you can set your prefered file names and folders structure in the options of the CD ripper.
Otherwise I use Tag & Rename to edit my music collection...

Name Length 256? Reliable Back up?
Thanks Pirk!
I am reducing spaces to prevent a long name (+256) so i adopted - (without any space) to separate thinks in the file name.
I do regular backups of my music. The idea of losing it worries me quite a lot. Im using Norton Ghost to make an back image in a 2nd HDD (with check
image after back up)and some times split in DVDs wich is a pain in the as...
Is the any other more reliable way to do backups?
I have tried EJ to rip and to organize IDTags, I still prefering Music Match (pro version), but EJ have been improveing lots in many aspects I hope
only use EJ for everithing!
Cheers, Yogui.

Since I've almost totally lost my previous music collection after a HDD failure... I also do backups of my collection on 2 hard drives (2 backups, in
case a serious crash occurs during transfers!).
I've bought a SATA removable rack (Serial ATA is faster than USB...). Thus I get fast transfers while keeping my backups physically disconnected from
my PC for a total security.
As software, I've simply put all my music folders in a Windows briefcase: When I plug in one of my backups HDD, Windows explorer offers me to
synchronise all the files and folders in one click!
