clear playlist and play album
paradoxni - 6-17-2004 at 04:56 PM

Every time i click on the "clear playlist and play album" button beneath the album cover, the playlist does not clear as suggestion, but instead the album is appended to the beginning of the playlist, I then have to manually remove the previous playlist items.

You are right! I've wondered about this for some time now. I'd sure like it to clear the playlist as intended by the tooltip..

paradoxni - 6-17-2004 at 06:48 PM

ive also noticed sometimes when I click "clear playlist and play album" that the first track is not added to playlist and the album plays from track2 onwards.

this may be similar to my next bug...

if i play a track from an album, say track 3, then decide to add entire album to playlist by clicking "clear playlist and play album" the album gets added and starts playing but track 3 is removed.

Sorry if it seems like im going on a bit...

If a track is playing and the playlist is empty, therefore the next track is popularity mode, if i click on "clear playlist and playalbum" the album is added to the playlist but the popularity mode track is played immediately. not track 1 of the album I added.

1.

Concidering the problem you have with the "play album and clear playlist" not adding the first song in albums: I used to have this problem in earlier versions of ej, but it has disappered in the latest version. Don't know what's causing it.

2. Ej starts playing a track immedently when I click the "play album and clear function" even if the next track in the moment comes from popularity mode. Don't know what's causing this either, sorry..

3.

I think the last thing you mention is done by intention. Since you already listen to "song nr 3" and adds the respective album which the song is taken from ej assumes that you don't want to listen to this track again, since you're already playing it in the moment.

The same thing happens if you drag and drop the album while playing "song 3". Ej will add the rest of the album, excluding nr 3. I think this makes sense, but you're welcome to disagree with me of course :)

4.

The story is different for the playbutton though, where the tooltip is directly misleading. Hope that they can make the tooltip and the action of the button to correspond in the next version :)

I see your point in that you have already listened to the track. The problem arises thou if you are just listenin to one particular track to get a feel for the album and then decide you really want to listen to that entire album. I think its again linked to the clear playlist problem. The button is not doing as it is described to do.

I could just live with this clear playlist problem I guess, but I plan to install an in-car touchscreen jukebox and the ability to hit one button to play the album I want and then get back to concentrating on driving rather than having to sort out the playlist manually is essential.

Do you experience the problem of the missing first track? where the album is added and played from track 2 onwards?

Fishy - 6-17-2004 at 07:21 PM

I agree with you on that one and see the problem. Let's hope audiosoft takes this into concideration and changes the action of the playbutton, so it clears the playlist properly. We all want the summertraffic to move along a safe path, don't we? ;)
We don't want the drivers of cars to be busy with organizing their ej playlist ;)

If you browse the forum a bit you may discover that I've nagged for a playalbum button in the songlist as well. Under the coverimage in that list as well. What do you think of that idea? I like the though of having the possibility to play an album fast and with no hazzle whereever I am in the gui. Also this would be a good sollution for people with slow computers who might want to don't use the albumlist to spare resources.

PS: Could you post a picture of the car implementation when you've set it up?

I have the latest version of EJ, perhaps its something to do with the version of winamp? what version do u have? 5.03 here.

tried the popularity mode thing again incase I was mistaken, but again if track A is playin and track B is next up in popularity mode and I then click on play album, the album gets added to playlist but track B then begins playing first.

As for the car install, could take me a while but here are the items im planning on using:

fold out 7" touchscreen lcd.

1 Ghz PC contained in an in-car cdplayer sized chassis. Plays CD's/DVD's/MP3 without needing to boot into OS first.

Fishy - 6-17-2004 at 07:36 PM

hmm does this happen only when the up next popularity mode song comes from the same album as you're trying to play with the playbutton? Or is it independent of any relation between the album you're trying to play and the Up next song? I am using Winamp 2.91

That looks really cool! Good luck on your project! ;)

paradoxni - 6-17-2004 at 07:39 PM

no...the next up song in popularity mode can be any song I still get the same problem. Kinda freaked me out a bit at first when i clicked to play Coldplay and then a DJ mix from Sasha started to play! I thought "this cant be right!!!" ;)

paradoxni - 6-17-2004 at 07:46 PM

UPDATE: uninstalled winamp 5.03 and installed an old 2.81 version. the popularity problem has now gone. when I play an album the nextup song is removed and the album begins playing...unfortunately track 1 was removed and the album started from track2 arghh! note: this does not happen every time, sometimes track one is added other times its not..weird huh.

Fishy - 6-17-2004 at 07:49 PM

hmm.. good that you got rid of the nextup problem.. I am sure audiosoft will get back to you on the problem you're having with the first track of albums getting removed.

As I mentioned I had this problem with earlier versions, but for unknown reasons it disappeared in the latest versions. Don't know if it was due to some bug fixes in the software, or me changing some setting in the options..

paradoxni - 6-17-2004 at 08:05 PM

ok I think i fixed the first track problem, a few of my albums had incorrect ID tags for some tracks, so it wasnt picking up the first one. edited the tags and that problem has now gone...my fault :P

now I went through every album on my system testing the popularity problem...and it only happens on 1 album!! Alanis Morisset - so called chaos. Ive checked all ID tags and all seems to be correct. This is very strange! Note that the alanis album is the first one alphabetically in my list incase that matters. every other album now works perfectly.

ok a bit more investigation...

when i click "clear playlist and play album" for alanis morisette album, the tracks are getting added to the play list but i cant skip forward to them, checked winamps play list and no alanis tracks have been added! the album does exist as i can play each track indivually :o

Fishy - 6-17-2004 at 08:23 PM

Does it contain some weird characters? Are all tracks in proper mp3 format?

paradoxni - 6-17-2004 at 08:45 PM

ok it definately seems to be a EJ bug....

I deleted alanis album and rebuilt the database. Im now getting the same problem with the first album alphabetically as alanis morisette album had. It only happens with the first album in the database.

To see if this is a widespread problem try this...

play any song, then clear your playlist so that u get another song from popularity mode up next. Goto the very first album in your album list and click the "clear playlist and play now" button.

if the problem is occuring the popularity track should start playing not the album u want, and the "next song" >> button will not skip to the album u want.

Fishy - 6-17-2004 at 08:56 PM

Aha! You may be right! This happens at my system too..

However I am not sure if it is the same bug. The album this happens to at my system is "4 gir - skeve kråke" which is the number 7 of my "normal" albums.. Since this contain the norwegian letter "å" I start to wonder if that may be the reason...

paradoxni - 6-18-2004 at 07:28 AM

well at least u have been able to recreate the problem, so it isnt just me!:)

I would bet my life that the album u mention is the first in the database even though its not first on your album list. Some albums like soundtracks get added to the top of the list (e.g. See below, Alicia keys is first in my database and therefore has the problem, however pulp fiction is top of the displayed list). Lets hope Audiosoft recognise this first album problem and try and sort it out.

Audiosoft - 6-30-2004 at 11:44 PM

This bug has been fixed for v3.88. Clicking the Album List Play icon will clear the playlist before playing album under v3.88.

Fishy - 6-30-2004 at 11:57 PM

Audiosoft: Thanks a lot again.. a lot of fixes tonight ;)

Paradoxni: You're dang right it is! Just checked it out and yes it is the first album in my database.. So you're probably right about that "first album bug" you're describing.. Don't know if audiosoft, on their bugfix raid, have fixed this problem also .. :)

ps. Nice skin you're using there ;)

paradoxni - 7-1-2004 at 07:23 AM

Now that the clear playlist thing is fixed should we start a totally seperate post about the first album bug ?

Fishy - 7-1-2004 at 07:34 AM

I think audiosoft is aware of it now and I bet it is looked into as well..

paradoxni - 7-1-2004 at 07:40 AM

no probs, quick reply there:)

paradoxni - 7-7-2004 at 05:17 PM

first album bug we described now seems to be fixed with 3.88. great!! :)
