The "&" in Artists...
shrip - 2-22-2004 at 09:12 PM

If an artists has the & symbol in it, it doesn't bring up anything. This happens when I select the artists from the artist list, and at the top of the screen instead of Simon & Garfunkel, it just says Simon. I've tested it with all the other artists that have an & in them and the same thing happens.

This does sound strange.... It works fine for me, all my collaboration artists are listed with "&". Hmm.... perhaps it's another case of regional settings making things strange? What language settings do you use in Windows?

Krobar - 2-23-2004 at 08:48 PM

I have had the same problem with all versions of EJ. I think Audiosoft are aware of the problem.

shrip - 2-25-2004 at 05:45 AM

English (US) settings. Hopefully Audiosoft is aware. Seems like it would be a minimal thing to fix.

I have also always had this bug. The strange thing is: While the name after the "&" sign is also never displayed, on some artists I at least get the songs on screen, on other nothing.

I just went through the entire list of artists with "&" to see if there was a system behind all this and indeed there is one. As I have more than 50 artists, there can be no doubt:

When the first artist name (before the & ) consists of one word (e.g. Echo & The Bunnymen), then only "Echo" and NO SONGS are displayed. Just like in "Simon & Garfunkel".

However, for all artists with two or more words before the & sign (e.g. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), you will see "Nick Cave" and then ALL THEIR SONGS displayed.

You all should be able to see the same effect on your system, I imagine, I went through all artists and they all adhered to the above rule. Maybe this will helo Audiosoft to pinpoint the error better.

Hm, i was too quick in my reply. I don't have an internet connection at home anymore, so i wrote my initial reply from work. I believed that i didn't have any problems with this, since i have so many artists with '&' in their names... But i didn't really try to replicate Shrip's problem, so i'm sorry for answering without trying out. If this is the same for all others, i have it as well.

Demnos, I don't mean to break your theory. But Simon & Garfunkel Concert in Central Park (one word before the "&";) displays fine here.
hmm..

Fishy,

I know you (and probably junk) don't have the problem. What I am saying is: those who do have the problem such as Shrip and Krobar should have it in the same manner as I do!

Really the three of us have 2 problems: a) name after "&" always cuts off on the top line of song list and b) if artist has only one word before the "&", then also no songs show up.

Since you don't even have problem a), you will most likely also not have problem b)

Now it is again the challenge to find out what is different between Shrip's, Krobar's and my system compared to yours and junk's.

Hi guys,

If that can help to solve this bug; i've also checked all my artists with "&" in their name, and i also have this problem on my computer.
That occur EXACTLY like Demnos has explained here:

Quote:
a) name after "&" always cuts off on the top line of song list and b) if artist has only one word before the "&", then also no songs show up.

So we are four, at least...

Fishy - 2-25-2004 at 09:04 PM

hm.. weird. Are you guys using localised or international versions of windows?

Demnos - 2-25-2004 at 11:53 PM

Nope, I use the original (US) version of Windows and all my regional settings / locales are set to their default: US decimal signs, US time format, US keyboard, etc...

Fishy - 2-26-2004 at 05:05 AM

Ahem... Of course you're right... I have to actually start to *read* the posts instead of making my own interpretations all the time... I kept on testing this from the albumlist and everything seemed to work..

But, as pointed out by Shrip, this happens when one enters the artist from the *artistlist*.. and guess what: the same happens too me in there so you are right. I'm sorry for my misleading arguments..

I have to stop smoking those socks :)
