3 little features went to market... (sorry its a long one!)
ochristmas - 10-2-2003 at 02:28 PM

1. Clear playlist selectively
2. Stats
3. Sleep/Timer
4. No winamp

1. Clear playlist selectively
If I add 2 albums to the playlist and halfway through the first album I decide I have had enough of that album and want the next album on it would be really good if I could right click the playlist and click "remove [artist]'s tracks" or "remove [album] tracks". At the moment I think there's lots of possibility with the right click in the playlist (at the moment it only has font size which could be done through settings/options).

2. Stats
OK this is a biggy and possibly even a separate application. On a Monday morning I would (and do!) play tunes by The Smiths but I never play songs by ABBA - on Friday night I never play songs by The Smiths but frequently ABBA. I would love eJukebox to show me all the trends and frequencies so that on a Friday night I could automatically play "typical Friday night tunes" etc; etc; If you are already storing number of times played I would imagine its only a short step to record the time and day as well.

I think this has HUGE possibilities and I think those people that are anal enough to love ripping, tagging, ordering, rating, applying images etc; to their thousands of tunes (like me!) would be anal enough to love stats on times played etc;!!

3. Sleep/Timer
Minor one - at the moment I have a sleep timer Winamp plugin which is great (i.e. automatically turns the machine off at 1.00 am etc;) however I am worried that eJukebox is getting shut down a bit too violently and possibly doesn't have a chance to compact/update the database - also ideally integration is always best! It would be great if eJukebox had this functionality.

4. No winamp?
eJukebox is truly coming into its own - how much further would development need to go to separate itself fully from Winamp - ideally eJukebox would be compatible with winamp plugins but even if it wasn't I for one would getting rid of Winamp altogether as I have to admit since being bought out by AOL and the debacle that was release 3 my love for Winamp has waned!

Anyway just some thoughts for people to mull over and give feedback!

Cheers

ps oh and revamp the whole eJukebox2Web app!!!

I like the ideas, good stuff. But i disagree on the last one.

There's no point in re-inventing the wheel. One of eJukebox' strenghts is that it uses Winamp - and therefore gives us all the plugins, features and compability i can possible think of. If Audiosoft were to make their own replayer with support for all the things we love, such as the different formats, crossfading plugins, dynamic compressor DSPs, visualisation plugins... it would demand a whole lot of time which rather should be spent on developing eJukebox.

true - in hindsight maybe youre right. Though to have the option - as a lot of people I know simply use winamp to play an mp3 which with the talk of eJukebox having a cd player would be nice to be built in. But junk I think youre right I would much rather development time spent on the others issues!!

ps junk whats happened to your avatar?

Good idea! This has been added to v3.5 so that you will now be able to right click the playlist to remove all songs by an artist or in a album. I'll let you know about the status of other ideas/issue if we commit to implemnting them.

Ochristmas,

I like new users like you who bring some fresh ideas for eJukebox improvement. :)

Thanks!

Pirk - I like old users like you who mature like fine wine ;)

cbsoundman - 10-2-2003 at 10:01 PM

I like the fact that you openly admit listening to The Smiths and ABBA. LOL

(Sorry, had to make a comment.):P

ochristmas - 10-2-2003 at 10:06 PM

Monday mornings are tough man!! And Friday nights - well thats when the wife gets involved ;)

cbsoundman - 10-3-2003 at 02:18 AM

Yes, ABBA, does tend to get a dance floor full of ladies.

I think that Windows Media Player has something like you are talking about on number 2. There are some automatic playlists that say something like "Listen to on weekdays" and "Listen to on weekends" It has some kind of play tracking that does just like what you want but, I am not a programmer. I am guessing the people at Audiosoft might be able to figure it out.

Speaking of Audiosoft...I E-Mailed you twice (once yesterday and once at the start of summer). I need my new code.

Spazz - 10-3-2003 at 08:45 PM

And speaking of audiosoft I need a new code too, I had emailed you but havn't heard back

Audiosoft - 10-3-2003 at 10:53 PM

Spazz,

Just emailed you back with your new code.

cbsoundman,

We still need your current Application ID# before we can deactive your old code and send you a new one.
