I would find it usefull to have the option of compacting the Databse or not. there are times when I really want to just shut down my PC and leave, but
I need to wait for the DB to compact or it can cause issues with E-jukebox not loading.
the amount of space it maight take up doesn't worry me as I have around 300gig spare at the moment.
Could this be possible? Maybe an option within the E-Jukebox to always compact / never compact / prompt on closing ?
If you shutdown your computer with eJukebox open eJukebox will exit without compacting.
The compacting has more to do with increasing the database speed and efficiency (like defragging) than reducing the database file size though it does
that too. The process should only take a few seconds ...longer right after adding songs to the database.
Fair enough, its just that anytime I have closed E-Jukebox without letting it complete the compacting / Defrag etc I have been unable to open it afterward and I need to delete the ejuke.asn and db.m3u files to allow me to open EJ and re-build the databse from scratch and that takes a loooong time!
Don't mean to sound like a moan, but I tried doing the shut down of the PC with EJ open.
When I restarted the PC tried opening EJ, It stuck on the splash screen and would go no further.
I am now in the process of re-building the DB, but with the speed of this PC (2.4gh, 384MB Ram) it will take aroun 36-48 hours. Does anyone else come
across this?
Are you sure it was frozen? It may have been building the artistlist which can take a long time when there are allot of artists.
Yeah, I had left it for between 4-5 hours just in case. The first time it happened to me i left it for 18 hours!! and the blue bar on the splash screen does not move any further than about one third to a half the way along. It doesn't even get to the point of loading winamp.
"It doesn't even get to the point of loading winamp" :
I would tend to think that your problem is there: eJukebox just "can't" start winamp. Or winamp doesn't start correctly and eJukebox wait for it.
Sometimes I experience that when the winamp output fails after that my RDC connection was lost then recovered.. But maybe your problem is totally
different?
Hey Pirk, what is "RDC" connection? do you mean a remote desktop? if so, then thats not relevant here. if its something else then I am now very interested as it may solve my problem!
Yes I mean remote desktop. Even if you don't use eJukebox via a remote desktop connection, maybe in your case winamp doesn't start correctly for another reason? So eJ wait indefinitely..
OK. I am still using Winamp v5, so I will see if there is a more up to date version in case thats causing problems.
I would try to run Winamp first, then once winamp works I would start eJukebox, just to see..
The DB is now re-built and EJ is working as normal, but if it happens again I will start Winam first then EJ as you suggest.
thanks for your help Pirk!
Glad eJukebox is working again Well_Jaggy!
I also used it..It is absolutely working..Thanks.
